Here’s How to Make Money Doing What You Love

We all could use a little extra money. The problem with the money we make is that for the most part, it does not come easy. We work hours that we wish we had for other things. And we do the kind of labor that we normally wouldn’t do if we had a choice. Sometimes, it’s crazy difficult just to drag ourselves out of bed in the morning on a work day. Just compare how hard it is to get up on a work day to how easy it is to get up when you are leaving for an exotic vacation. What’s the difference? It isn’t the bed, or the number of hours in the day. It is how you feel about what you anticipate doing.

Wouldn’t it be nice to make a living doing the thing you do when you’re not at work? What if you could make money from the thing you choose to do rather than the thing you have to do? The good news is that you can. But first, you are going to need a little extra money to get started.

Start by moving your money from those banks with overdraft fees to one that doesn’t. An overdraft fee is just a way the bank can kick you when you are already down. If you were a little behind when you slightly overdrew your account, you will be even further behind when overdraft fees are applied, you might even need a temporary loan to dig your way back out. If overdraft fees are not a problem for you, don’t be surprised to find that you need to put in a little money to start a new side hustle or business. Here are a few ways that money can help you follow your passion:

Start a Travel Blog

A travel blog is pretty easy to start even if you don’t get out much. You can partner with a person who does do a lot of travel and blog their adventures. Writing compelling content is an art that most people don’t have. The investment in starting a blog is quite minimal. It gets a bit more expensive when you are actually the one doing the traveling.

That said, it is nowhere near as expensive as you think. Plenty of companies will greatly offset your expenses in turn for writing honest reviews. It’s like advertising except you get to be honest about what you think of the product. You also get to tell others that you are doing a sponsored article. Some people actually make a profit after expenses just by doing sponsored work. This really could be your full-time.

Teach Music Lessons

Do you really love music? Can you play a piano or guitar? If so, your next gig is already there and waiting. There are very good reasons to enroll your kids in piano lessons. Many parents are generally aware of the reasons but feel they can’t afford it. You don’t have to charge an arm and a leg to make a nice profit. In fact, the vast majority of what you make will be pure profit. You can easily charge $50 an hour or $160 for four lessons per month. Go with the monthly discount. It is better in the long run every time. You don’t need a teacher’s certificate to teach private lessons. If you can play an instrument, there is almost no reason to not teach it to others and make a bit of money along the way.

Podcasting

Podcasting is a lot like blogging, except with a microphone and spoken words rather than a text editor and written words. It has progressed to be more than a hobby. It is now a legitimate business opportunity if you want it to be. Both Apple and Spotify have programs for monetizing your passions. And building a loyal audience. The only real expense is the investment you need to make in a decent microphone. Almost anything for $200 will be great. And you can get away with something in the $100 range.

Your hobbies can become extra sources of income including travel, music, and podcasting. If you do it just right, you can even go pro doing the thing you truly love.
