It doesn’t matter if you’re spending your time on some of the best beaches in the world, hiking through the mountains, or somewhere in between, you’re likely to spend a lot of time on your feet.

The more time you spend on your feet, the greater chance there is that you’ll eventually experience some pain or discomfort.  

Fortunately, even if you run into trouble, there are a variety of ways to treat your sore feet so that you don’t have to slow down. 

For example, if you’re the type of person who enjoys long walks, a foot rub may be just what you need after returning home.

If this sounds like something you want to experiment with, here are five tips to keep in mind:

1. Don’t Wait

Don’t wait to rub your feet upon returning home from your walk. Find a comfortable spot and get down to business. It only takes a handful of minutes for your feet to start feeling better. 

2. Get Help

There are many ways to get relief, without actually having to do all the work on your own. 

For example, you could visit a local massage parlor to get your feet the attention they need. At the same time, your masseuse can work on other parts of your body.

You can also buy a foot spa or handheld massager. This takes a lot of the work off of you.

3. Elevate Your Feet

After you’re done rubbing your feet, elevate them for additional relief. There are many benefits of doing this, including:

  • More natural blood flow
  • Pressure relief
  • Reduced inflammation

Even if you only have time to elevate your feet for five minutes or so, it’s better than nothing at all. You may be surprised at how much better your feet feel when you finally stand back up. 

4. Use a CBD Rub

This may be new to you, but many people are already using a CBD rub as a means of obtaining relief. 

You can use these products on almost every part of your body, including all parts of your feet, ankles, and legs. 

It can reduce pain and discomfort, and may even help with swelling. 

5. Don’t Push Yourself

Yes, a long walk is relaxing. And yes, it’s something you should try to work into your schedule  to keep you healthy. However, don’t push yourself too hard. If you need to take a few days off, so be it.

The last thing you want to do is push yourself to the point of causing more harm. This can result in the need to take more time off. 

Sometimes, rest and relaxation are exactly what you need. 

Don’t Make These Walking Mistakes

By now, you realize that rubbing your feet after a long walk can do you quite a bit of good. What you may not realize is that you could be making matters worse every time you venture out.

Here are some walking mistakes that you should avoid at all costs:

  • Wearing the wrong shoes, such as those that are worn out or do not provide enough support
  • Walking on rough surfaces in your bare feet 
  • Walking on the side of your feet, as opposed to heel to toe

It’s easy to believe that you’re doing everything the right way in regards to how you walk, but it’s possible you could be making a mistake that causes you pain and discomfort.

The next time you leave your house for a long walk, think about the shoes you’re wearing, where you’re going, and the basics of each step. You may soon find something that you can change for the better. And when you do that, your feet won’t take as much abuse.

Walking is one of the best things you can do for your mind, body, and soul. At a minimum, try to walk for 45 minutes every day
